Job description

Working closely and as part of the health care assistant team you will ensure that Service users receive the highest standards of care and support through effective allocation of staff. You will direct, mentor, and supervise the team to ensure quality standards are maintained and that care is delivered in a timely way in line with the service users individual needs and wishes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To organise the care team whilst considering the changing needs of service users.
  • To compile weekly care schedules ensuring that all service user calls are covered with suitably trained and experienced staff.
  • To react to changing circumstances such as staff absence and ensure care call are still covered.
  • To maintain electronic records and hard copy information such as care plans, risk assessments & service user review records
  • To clearly set out the expectations for each shift and direct the team accordingly.
  • To promote dignity, respect, and choice for service users, ensuring that the care teamwork within this ethos at all times.
  • To be accountable to the Senior HCA on shift; ensuring that they are kept informed of any concerns or changes to the health and wellbeing of individual Service Users.
  • Ensure that care and support is provided for Service Users in a timely way upholding and improving standards of care delivery.
  • To ensure that Service Users have daily opportunities for meaningful occupation and activity.
  • To Liaise with Local Stakeholders such as Local Authority Brokerage Teams, Health Professionals, and Informal carers
  • To ensure that all care staff engage in the activity and occupation program of supporting Service Users’ involvement to enhance well-being and quality of life.
  • Uphold and embed the company values and ethos at all times.
  • To act as a role model and be an exemplar to the care team at all times
  • To have a good understanding of individual Service Users’ needs and be able to respond effectively and responsively to changing needs.
  • To ensure all care is delivered to the highest possible standard.
  • Drive improvements in care delivery by upskilling the care team members, through observation and mentoring.
  • Support and mentor new team members.
  • To ensure the emotional and well-being of Service Users at all times.
  • Teamwork – covering team leader shifts when required with a flexible working pattern.
  • To promote good communication among the team.
  • To enable the Senior HCA to have time to complete designated responsibilities such as medication administration and care plan reviews.
  • To contribute to the care planning process for individual Service Users by sharing information with the Senior HCA about their needs, wishes and any changes that you have noted.
  • To ensure that all documentation completed by the care team is accurate and includes information relevant to the service users care needs.
  • To adhere to all safeguarding processes are always followed.
  • To monitor the care practice of individual carer’s, addressing any issues of concern proactively, including reporting and documenting as required.
  • Statutory Responsibilities
  • To ensure that all staff, including yourself take reasonable care of their own and other people’s health and safety whilst at work.
  • To ensure that all staff attend and follow training provided by the organisation to maintain good health and safety standards and are familiar with relevant policies and procedures.
  • To ensure all staff report accidents, incidents, and unsafe practices to the appropriate person.
  • To ensure that all information is handled, stored, and shared in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation.
  • To carry out any reasonable management instruction.

Person Specification

  • At Least 6 months experience in a similar role
  • Direct care experience preferred.
  • Able to work alone and as part of a team
  • Excellent Organization Skills
  • Good IT Skills
  • Good Communications Skills
  • Basic Literary and arithmetic skills
  • Copes well under pressure

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: From £23,000.00 per year
